DIRECT ANSWER
Check the restriction message before retrying
1. Separate normal restrictions from a stuck ability
The developer describes entry and exit as depending on darkness or being outside a resident’s line of sight. The screen’s availability feedback matters more than a location looking dark to you. For a troubleshooting check, move to cover away from both direct light and observers, watch the cooldown, then retry once it is ready. This reduces the environmental variables; it is not a new hidden unlock requirement.
| What you see | Next step |
|---|---|
| Unavailable near light or while observed | Reposition and check the displayed restriction again. |
| Cooldown visibly counting down | Wait for it to finish; do not infer a fault from the icon alone. |
| Cooldown stays unchanged for minutes | Compare with the community reports below and record the timer. |
| Unable to leave Shape Jump | Check the exit location’s light and sightlines as well as the input. |
| Missing stand-up prompt after being downed | Record that separately; it is not the same symptom as a frozen cooldown. |
2. If the cooldown is stuck, compare the reported workaround
Several participants across the two discussions say Reality Tear restored access. If it is already equipped and available, you can try it and then check whether normal Shape Jump availability returns. Record the result either way. The reports do not establish a universal success rate, a required button sequence or a permanent fix.
If Reality Tear is not equipped or is unavailable, the cited discussions do not establish another reliable recovery. They also do not promise that leaving a match refunds a Killer Token. Do not spend another token merely to test a claim that the next match will behave differently.
3. What Patch 1.0.1 actually fixed
The September 8 notes name a case where Reality Tear failed to put Michael into Shape Jump while he was getting up from a downed state. They also name lingering Shape Dash visual effects and Michael becoming invisible under certain conditions.
None of those entries explicitly names a cooldown that stops advancing for the rest of a match. Their presence in the patch notes therefore does not settle the later reports. Keep a visual effect, a downed-state transition and an unavailable ability separate when describing your case.
4. Capture the state that changed
For an official support report, include your platform, installed version, mode, equipped abilities, exact availability message and whether the timer moves. Note the last event before failure and whether the ability worked earlier in that match. If you tried Reality Tear, say whether it restored ordinary entry and exit or only moved Michael once.
A short clip showing the message and unchanged timer helps distinguish a persistent fault from a normal restriction. Use the developer support link in Sources. This wiki has not reproduced the bug in a hands-on test and cannot confirm a fix date.
Frequently asked questions
Does Reality Tear fix the Shape Jump cooldown bug?
Multiple players report that it restores access, but the result is not guaranteed or confirmed as a repair by the developer. Try it only if available in your current loadout, then check normal Shape Jump again.
Why can I enter Shape Jump but not exit?
The published restriction applies to both transitions. Check the exit location and the on-screen message. A blocked exit alone does not prove that the cooldown is frozen.
Did Patch 1.0.1 fix this?
It names a Reality Tear transition while getting up from a downed state. It does not explicitly name the persistent-cooldown symptom reported afterward.
Is a knockdown or flare hit the confirmed cause?
No. Those events appear in an individual report, while other players describe different circumstances. Record the sequence without assuming every case has the same trigger.
