Six chapters, played as Michael

The story mode is a six-chapter single-player campaign played from Michael Myers’ perspective, each chapter carrying optional challenges. It is not the same as a private match against AI, and not the same as offline play. Completing its challenges unlocks alternate costumes for the civilian roster.

Three different ways to play alone

This is where most confusion about the game starts, because all three get described as single-player and only one of them is the campaign.

Why the campaign matters even if you only want multiplayer

The alternate costumes for the ten civilians — including looks drawn from the original film — are unlocked by completing story-mode challenges rather than by playing matches. That is a real dependency between the two halves of the game, and it is easy to miss. If you want a specific civilian appearance for the 1v4 mode, the route runs through the campaign.

Playing the killer changes what the mode is for

A campaign told from Michael’s side is a different proposition from the survival perspective most asymmetrical horror games use for their solo content. It also means the skills the campaign teaches transfer to one of the two multiplayer roles rather than both. Nothing published describes the chapters as a tutorial for the civilian side.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the story mode?

The developer has published the chapter count but no runtime. Estimates circulating elsewhere come from individual playthroughs, not from the studio.

Can I play the story mode offline?

Offline play exists and was repaired in the September 5 hotfix after the login queue interfered with it. Whether every part of the campaign works without a connection is not specifically stated.

Do you play civilians in the story?

The mode is described as played from Michael’s perspective. The legacy characters appear in it, but as part of the story rather than as playable roles.
